Railroad Tigers – A Comprehensive Review


Nominated for eight Academy Awards including Best Picture, Train to Busan is a psychological thriller/love-story/adventure about the unlikely romance and friendship between an American serviceman and a South Korean girl. ดูหนีัง Sung-ho Jeon (Kwon Sang-ho) is an American GI who lives in South Korea. Due to his trauma at the time of war and his frequent hospitalization, he often had to be admitted and had no friends. When he returns to the USA, he reconnects with Soon-hee (Kwon Suk-woo), a beautiful girl from his hometown. They meet and fall in love, and they become pen pals.

The film begins in the late 1980s. He meets her in an eatery and leaves to go home. He arrives at her house later that same day and they eat a candlelit dinner together. Their friendship is strengthened when Soon-hee relates her past and he shares with her his experiences in the military. The two go to a restaurant later that night and Soon-hee becomes drunk. She wants him to take her home.

The film then follows their courtship and marriage. Soon-hee is enraged by Sung-ho’s endless questions about Soon-hee’s life, love life, and background. He also nags her with his unwanted thoughts about sex, which soon turns into a reality when is arrested by Park Myung-se, the head of the Korea Railroad. Park arrests Sungho for trespassing near railroad tracks. However, Soon-hee’s father decides that he will press charges against the Soon-hee’s use of drugs, alcohol and other criminal acts Park committed against him.

Although Park is sentenced to two years in prison, he is allowed to serve part of his sentence in the Geo jail, where he makes an acquaintance of another inmate, Baek-min. Baek-min attempts to flee his crime, but Park takes him prisoner and releases him after he has served only a few months. While serving his sentence, Park becomes close with a fellow inmate, Ah-joo. Soon-hee discovers Park attractive and decides to assist him leave the prison, but soon discovers that Park is returning to his criminal ways again. Park then flees again but is re-captured by Hyung-joo, Park’s friend. Park then exposes his plan to release the heads of those who were taken captive of the railroad accident to them in the Geo Jail.

Park then unleashes his plan to destroy heads and make them weapons against the criminals. Park uses his new skills to make various weapons that include rocket launchers as well as a heavy-duty chainsaw. But he soon discovers that the villains also acquired weapons of their own like a hand gun and an assault rifle. They’ve become an unstoppable force that is completely unexpected.

Park then begins his plan to liberate the remaining prisoners by shooting laser beams from the eyes at the criminals who line up on the prison walls. The only issue is that the ray that he releases creates a large explosion that causes injuries to all of the guards and the prisoners inside the prison. But soon enough the new group of prisoners is released by the prison authorities, who lead them to the guard post. However, the criminals arrive just in time for guards to be killed one at a time.

Park then launches his next plan, which is to kill his rival, Kim, while he is moving with his new weapon. However, Park is unaware that his intended target is actually a police officer in motion. Kim then shoots and kills the policeman and escapes. Kim now has complete control over the railroad company because of this achievement. The film concludes with a group of survivors trying to find a way of escape from the Geo jail. Park who was left by his family and ridiculed by his peers, is struggling to adapt to his new life. Park decided to pursue his dream of becoming a director.

This movie is based on the Korean drama “Korean Railway Tigers” that was a huge success worldwide. The plot is excellent and the acting is top-notch and the special effects are amazing. This film is sure to be a huge hit in 2021. It has all the ingredients to become a huge success around the world!
